Quick identification
Aderidae resemble small Anthicidae but actually differ in several ways: (1) the procoxal cavities are internally open; (2) the antepenultimate tarsomere is lobed and the penultimate reduced (in anthicids the penultimate is lobed); (3) and the first 2 ventrites are solidly fused, sometimes with the suture between them being partly or completely effaced. Aderids are almost always less than 3.5 mm long.
